Beauty from the Dregs of Mud

Never Give Up
On Your House

Sometimes, a house can seem so overwhelming! Day after day, we live in our homes, enjoying the comforts and joy of the family and of our daily lives.

Yet, we can become unaware of how much our house needs us!!
It can be for a simple fresh coat of paint or removal of a depressing dated wallpaper.

Or it might be as seen in this Austin home, it could be the exterior landscape being overwhelmed by the climate of the local area.  It could be dead grass in the dry Northern Plains or mildew and mold along our coastal areas or as in Austin, poor drainage making for a mucky mess.

Yet, with imagination and effort, any part of our homes can become beautiful and welcoming!!

All Year Garden

All
Year
Garden

Just the other day, I posted on the ways to be smart to keep your pipes from freezing in the frigid weather that has been around and promises to be where ever you live for another few weeks.
Those short stints of warmer weather don't seem to shake the cold all from our systems.

Now, I get a wonderful article from Home By Design discussion the All Year Garden.  Seems a bit out of sync, huh??

Actually, this is a timely topic!!   If you don't plan now what you will do, daffodils and crocuses will be blooming,  It will be too late to plant as it will be the time to get all the flowers in.   Have you ever been stuck trying to plant in June due to a tough schedule??  I have and all you do is water flowers dying to due to excessive heat with no root system to survide the 4 hours between watering(if you or I had the time!!).

Thus, don't toss this blog to the side!!  Read and learn how to have that All Year Long Garden!!

Quick Easy....Bring home the Bacon

Help is Here!

After working all day, no one wants to come home and cook for two hours to eat dinner at 9pm.   That isn't why you bought that beautiful new house in the suburbs or are really happy that you stole that walkup so you can work late without having to take a 40 minute drive.

We purchase houses or town house or perhaps rent a condo for the purpose of enjoying our privacy and escaping the manacial pace of life.  Adding the task of dinner ever night just takes away a piece of the joy!

Sure we can order in or dart for our favorite take out a couple of nights each week.  Yet, sometimes it is great to get home, get in ones favorite lounging clothes(perhaps after a bit of exercise!) and veg for the night.

Yet one has to eat.  So for those "taking it easy at home" evenings, take one of these delectable Better Homes and Garden Recipes and whip something up quick!

You'll be done before you know it!

2014 Work Plan

2014 Work Plan

for YOUR HOME

Happy New Year!!

                          NOW GET TO WORK!!!

You would think that is what Better Homes and Garden's article linked below is trying to tell us.   Actually, the article provides monthly to dos that give you or me an idea of the little, and sometime simple, things we can do to maintain our home.

You will note some will take a few days efforts and others will take a morning on Saturday or some evening during the week.

Yet, one of the joys of home ownership is making the house your own.  Whether it is painting a bedroom or rearranging/organizing the mudroom, we make a house of sticks and bricks or home where wonderful memories are made.

So do think of these monthly activities as drudgery to avoid but as history making to embrace!!!!
